Short Term Advice:
· Relax and lie still on the couch for a few minutes.
· Get up very slowly to avoid sudden blood rush from the head.
· Have some water to sip slowly.
· Sit still and do not drive or operate heavy machinery for a short period of time.
· Keep the face and neck warm.
· Do not go swimming or showering immediately afterwards.
· Wear ear plugs if planning to swim within the next 48 hours.
Long Term Advice:
· Have 3 initial treatments and then analyse progress with therapist.
· Do not poke anything into the ear e.g.: cotton buds, hairpins to remove wax
· Change diet, reduce caffeine, alcohol, and increase vegetables and fruit. Give up smoking.
· Increase water intake.
· If treatments are successful, continue having them on a maintenance basis.
· If treatments are not successful, contact your doctor and ask to be referred to The Ear, Nose and Throat unit or consultant.
· Reduce stress levels in life.
· Increase holistic practises e.g.: meditation, relaxation, consider other holistic or complementary therapies.
Wear ear plugs or defenders in noisy or dusty workplaces.
· Use 5% sodium bicarbonate eardrops to break up earwax or try body warmed olive oil instead.
· Keep hearing aids clean.
· Keep ears clean.
